Cardiometabolic &
Lifestyle Medicine

Cardiometabolic & Lifestyle Medicine

Lifestyle Medicine is a branch of healthcare focused on using evidence-based lifestyle modifications to prevent, manage, and even reverse chronic diseases. It emphasizes interventions such as healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, restorative sleep, avoidance of risky substances like tobacco and excessive alcohol, and positive social connections. The goal is to address the root causes of disease by promoting long-term sustainable health behaviors.

What we do in the Cardiometabolic & Lifestyle Medicine Clinic.

At One Health, we offer lifestyle medicine appointments for patients interested in improving their blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, and more through changes in eating, moving, sleeping, and stress reduction. Our goal is to improve your metabolic health without medication—and even stop medication! We achieve this through personalized lifestyle modification with discussions from Dr. Gorsuch on whole food plant-based eating patterns and Dr. Calkins focusing on low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets.

My name is Matt Calkins. I completed my undergraduate degree in physics and attended medical school at the University of Florida. Go gators! When I am not working, I can be found hiking, lifting weights, or spending time with my family. I am doing urgent care full-time and I have a pilot metabolic health clinic for One Health patients where I focus on low carbohydrate ketogenic diets, exercise, sleep, and stress mitigation to improve metabolic health, including weight loss, blood sugar, and blood pressure, and deprescribe medications.
