What to expect at our lactation visits:
Our lactation visits are tailored to each patient’s needs and can last up to 75 minutes. This gives us time to discuss your feeding goals, observe a feeding and create a feeding plan that works best for you and your baby.
Our lactation consultant will help you meet your feeding goals whether it is to pump exclusively, latch exclusively or a combination of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. We want you to feel seen and heard while making sure your baby gets the nutrition needed to grow and thrive.
You can schedule a visit prenatally, right after you come home from the hospital with your new baby or anytime along the way if a new feeding challenge arises. We are here to support you!
Reasons to schedule a lactation visit:
- Pain with breastfeeding: Whether it is breast engorgement or sore nipples or mastitis, lactation consultants are specially trained to prevent and treat breastfeeding challenges.
- Pumping support: Pumping is breastfeeding. Period. If your plan is exclusive pumping or you’re planning your return to work, we can help. We will review flange sizes and show you how to pump efficiently and comfortably.
- Ready to wean: When you and your baby are ready to transition beyond breastfeeding, we will help make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible.
- You have doubts or questions: Whether we meet prenatally to help you prepare for what to expect or meet with you and your baby postpartum, we will answer your questions. Our goal is to have you leave the appointment feeling empowered!
